CE certified, RoHS, and ISO are pasted onto listings until the words stop meaning anything. Each one points at a different document. Ask for that document with the part number on it.
RoHS is a material limit
RoHS restricts specific substances in electrical and electronic equipment sold into jurisdictions that apply it, with exemptions that change over time. A supplier declaration should identify the exact part. A homogeneous-material test report is stronger evidence when the customer or the law requires it. “RoHS” in a product title, with no part number, is not evidence. The same discipline covers REACH questions: name the substance and the article, and do not accept a blanket email.
CE is a claim with a list attached
The CE mark is the manufacturer’s statement that the product meets the European requirements that apply to it. The useful page is the EU declaration of conformity: product identification, the directives, and the standards used to show compliance. Low-voltage, EMC, and machinery rules are not interchangeable. A power supply, a machine, and a passive enclosure do not carry the same file. If you are the manufacturer putting the product on the EU market, the file is your responsibility; a supplier’s logo does not transfer it.
ISO 9001 is about the factory’s system
An ISO 9001 certificate has a scope and an address. Read both. A certificate for “trading of promotional gifts” does not say anything about a PCB process. It can still be good news about how that company handles documents. Pair it with the product evidence you actually need: for boards, workmanship criteria such as IPC-A-610; for enclosures, the IP test; for drives, the safety report named on the declaration.
Incoming inspection still exists. Marks help you choose which question to ask. They do not replace looking at the revision you are about to build. Hazardous-area marks are a separate case, covered in IP ratings and ATEX.
Questions buyers actually ask
Does a CE mark mean the product was tested by the EU?
No. For many products the manufacturer declares conformity and keeps a technical file. Some product families require a notified body. The declaration of conformity should list the directives and standards relied on. A JPEG of a CE mark is not that document.
Does ISO 9001 prove this batch is good?
It shows the site had a certified quality-management system for the scope on the certificate, at the time of the audit. It does not replace incoming inspection, a test report, or a material certificate for the lot you received.
What should an RFQ request for RoHS?
A declaration that names the part number and revision, and any exemption the part still uses. For higher risk, ask for a test report from a laboratory and check that the reportu2019s sample matches the part.
